MCS Seeks New Members

As the choir enters its fiftieth year of music-making, Marquette Choral Society is actively seeking new members of all voice parts.

Despite concert cancellations due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Marquette Choral Society remained active throughout the 2020-2021 season with virtual rehearsals and lectures on choral literature, given by musical director Dr. Erin Colwitz and other guest speakers. The choir also partnered with Public Radio 90 to hold a “Sing-Along Messiah” event in December, which had 90 participants.

The ensemble is looking forward to returning to in-person singing, performance and fellowship this fall with long-time and new members alike. The repertoire for fall 2021 will include Ralph Vaughan Williams’ Mass in G Minor and John Rutter’s Gloria, with concerts taking place on December 11th and 12th at St. Peter Cathedral.

Rehearsals will be on Monday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 pm in room 250 at the Thomas Fine Arts on the NMU campus, beginning on August 23rd. Dues for the fall 2021 season will be $30, with an additional $30 for the cost of sheet music. Registration will take place at 6 pm prior to the first rehearsal, and additionally at 6:30pm before the second and third rehearsals.

All singers with a love of choral music are welcome to join!

At this time, masks will be required for all singers in rehearsal, in accordance with Northern Michigan University policy. We recommend singers purchase a Resonance Singers Mask from MyMusicFolders (https://www.mymusicfolders.com/product/resonance-singers-mask-with-disposable-biofilters/). Singers are also strongly encouraged to be vaccinated for COVID-19, also in accordance with University policy. The University will not lift pandemic restrictions until there is a high percentage of the on-campus population vaccinated.
